Book Review

A group of people that like to get together to discuss interesting books.  Vicki Holder is the coordinator.

One of the books discussed was "The Shack" if anything matters then everything matters. Because you are important, everything you do is important. Every time you forgive, the universe changes; every time you reach out and touch a heart or a life, the world changes; with every kindness and service, seen or unseen, my (God’s) purposes are accomplished and nothing will ever be the same again.” p.235 The Shack

Several New Horizon members and friends met to discuss the ideas, concepts and things we observed and questioned about this intriguing book. We shared our ideas and understanding of the book and of our faith lives prompted by ideas in the book with which we agreed and with which we did not. The Shack provided a venue through which we could discuss those really important topics that we rarely have an opportunity to share with others. We were blessed to have been able to reach out and touch each others’ hearts and lives.

Crafts
If you like to work on craft items and have fellowship with other church members please join us.  We usually meet on the third Saturday of the month in the morning at 9:30am.  Vicki Holder is the coordinator.
Mariners
The Mariners is a group of singles and couples that meet each month on the third Thursday at 6:30pm starting with a potluck supper, followed usually with informative and enjoyable programs. One of the main activities is hosting two rummage sales, one in the spring and one in the fall. The money received from these sales goes to provide mission support for charities like Boys & Girls Club of America, Habitat for Humanity, Interfaith Response, Salvation Army, Phoenix House, Phillips Cupboard, Meals on Wheels and many other local Council Bluffs charities. They also give Camp Calvin Crest and HELP Adult Services. Some of the money has been used to provide some church items like an ice machine and many small kitchen items. Mary Alice and Lynn Fehr along with Lois and Grant Nihsen have led the group in 2009.
